International Day of Persons with Disabilities: Belize Commemorates with Events Throughout Disabilities Week

Belize will join countries around the world for the observance of International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) 2023. The day is sanctioned by the United Nations and is used to promote awareness of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities.

Since 2021, Belize has been going the extra mile to celebrate Disabilities Week. The Ministry of Human Development, Families and Indigenous People’s Affairs is hosting events for Disabilities Week in collaboration with various partners, and has rolled out a full calendar of events. Marshall Nunez, coordinator of the disabilities desk, in the ministry, dropped by our studios to let the public know what events that can look forward to during disabilities week.

The global theme for the International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2023 is, “United in action to rescue and achieve the SDGs for, with and by persons with disabilities”.  Nunez says that the disabilities week in Belize has its own theme which builds upon the works of previous years.
